STEP 2 — FIRST PRINCIPLES: Identify 3-5 foundational principles governing this domain. For each: the principle, what most practitioners get wrong about it, a specific failure mode when violated.
STEP 3 — DEPTH DRILL: For each principle, drill 3-4 layers by asking "why is this true?" and "what causes this?" Layer 1 (as commonly understood) → Layer 2 (mechanism: WHY) → Layer 3 (boundary conditions: when it breaks) → Layer 4 (cross-domain parallel). STOP at genuine bedrock or when drilling produces abstraction without explanatory power.
STEP 4 — SYNTHESIS: 2-3 non-obvious conclusions + 1 genuine tension + 1 cross-domain structural parallel. NON-MODALITY CHECK: "Would a competent professional with 30 minutes and a good AI arrive at this?"
STEP 5 — APPLICATION: Recommendations tracing to specific findings. Each: source finding, common mistake corrected, confidence level.
STEP 6 — VERIFICATION: Where did you substitute frameworks for first-principles reasoning? Which insights would be obvious to a domain expert? Which recommendations <75% confidence? Revise if needed.
